    About Our Children's Photography

    Sessions

We have a variety of different sessons to choose from. You have the choice of letting us "pick the best" and create the package that you order; You select the image(s) that you want and place your order immediately following your child's session; or you may select to have a preview booklet created and place your order at a later time and day. We are all about choices. Each different session has different packages and prices. This is all discussed at either with an in person consultation or over the phone consultation.

The Day of Your Child's Session

Bring your child to our studio at least 15 minutes before their scheduled appointment. We will "get down to their level" and talk to them and make them feel at home. This is called "warming them up". Do not have your child dressed in what you want them photographed in. We have dressing rooms available for that purpose. This will prevent any "accidents" on your planned outfit. ALWAYS bring a backup outfit or outfits...just in case. Important things to remember...Do NOT "practice" smiling with your child. Please avoid using the term "Cheese" with them.  Let your child be a child. WE have photographed thousands upon thousands of children, we want them to be children and have fun! If you have special props you wish to use, please let us know! We are more than happy to incorporate them into the images created.

    Clothing Suggestions

Keep the clothing simple (plain)…no patterns, prints, plaids or stripes! EXCEPTION to this rule: If you are planning a “Themed” portrait. (e.g. Christmas patterns, Kilts, Wisconsin or Green Bay Packer gear, etc). Long sleeves photograph the best. For a casual look, we suggest wearing “pants”…such as jeans or khakis. AVOID wearing short skirts or shorts as your child or children may be sitting on the floor or ground…this is especially important for “little girls” and especially if they are still in diapers! If you are planning on using shorts or “bib overalls”…we suggest bare feet. We suggest that everyone in the portrait be dress “alike” or similar.

Stay with “colors” that compliment each other…this is EXTREMELY important!  This eliminates “anyone standing out from the rest”. Select a MAXIMUM of THREE colors; e.g. Burgundy T-shirts under a denim shirt with khaki pants.

Dress from head to toe…don’t forget about your matching shoes, belts, and socks. If wearing jeans, “tennis shoes” are ok…however, brown shoes (loafers or boots) look better. Bare feet work just as nice! White shoes will stand out in the photograph.

Colors that photograph the BEST: Blues (denim, navy, royal blue, teal, baby blue) Browns (tan, dark brown, medium brown, khaki) Earth Tones (burgundy, rust, pale yellow, forest green) Black (especially for pants) Other (pink, purple, salmon, periwinkle, emerald green) Please call us for more suggestions or to have a clothing consultation. Avoid BRIGHT colors…such as Orange, Lime Green, Neon Green, Neon Yellow  and some Reds. (Color flushing into the face may occur with bright colors.)

What is the Most Important Thing to Remember as a Parent?

Let your child be a KID! If they are being silly, let them. If they are making goofy faces in front of the camera, let them! If they want to twirl with their dress, let them! WE get silly right along with them! WE allow them to be a kid! Your child can pick up on your vibes! If you start feeling anxious, they will too! However, if your child becomes destructive (intentionally knocking over things and breaking expensive items) PLEASE intervene.

How Soon will Our Portraits be Ready?

We know how excited parents become waiting for their finished portraits. There are many different variables that go into creating your portraits. If ALL goes right and according to plan, you can expect your finished portraits in two weeks. If something happens that does NOT meet our specifications, then it could take an additional week or two. Yes, unfortunately, things do happen. We once had a 30x40 portrait delivered folded in half. It was well packaged from our lab...unfortunately it was "crunched" because a package in front of it on a 60 mph conveyer belt,  jammed, causing a major accident.

    FAQs

    • How many outfits can we use? Depending upon the type of session you are going with will determine the number of outfits you may use. Our suggestion is only one. We are more likely to achieve the best expression with one outfit. Bring others along JUST IN CASE of a problem with the main outfit. If you wish to use several outfits, we always use your favorite one first and additional photographs must be purchased from the additional outfits.
    • How long does a session last? That depends upon your child. It could be five minutes or an hour. Most sessions are 20 - 30 minutes long. Child experts say that you have one minute of attention span for each year of a child's age before they become "bored". We switch things up during their session by making them sit on the floor or in a chair or in a basket or in a wagon or on a tricycle or on a stool or with a prop you have brought in. When your child has had enough, we will know and we are done.
    • What happens if my child doesn't cooperate? Not a problem! WE know that there are days that your child just might be "out of sorts" or that your child might be coming down with a "bug". IF, after a short time in the camera room, we feel that the child just isn't going to cooperate, we will make another appointment for them!
    • My child is shy or has special needs, what can Studio One for me? Over our extensive years of experience in photography, we have photographed many children with different special needs. Kris has taken many special classes to help children feel at "ease" and allow their personality shine in front of the camera. Call us to discuss all of your concerns.
    • What happens if my child wakes up sick the day of their session? If they wake up sick or even if they wake up in the middle of the night sick, please... CALL TO RESCHEDULE AND LET US KNOW (EVEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!)  DO NOT BRING THEM IN FOR THEIR SESSION! We KNOW that this happens.
    • What happens if my child gets hungry? We schedule enough time for you and your baby to nurse or for you to give them a bottle. Please bring any snacks and drinks for your child, as we do not supply any, to prevent food allergy reactions.
    • Are we allowed to bring special props? Absolutely! Simply let us know what you will be bringing and if additional "set up time" is needed.!
    • May we bring our house pets? In most cases yes. There will be an additional fee and that will depend upon the age of your child and the type of house pet you will be bringing. We will need to discuss this before the day of your session. Another person will be needed to attend to your pet's needs while we are photographing your child.
